Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 23, 2026Last updated September 25, 2026

Los-Angeles.com is an independent information site operated by Digitali, an independent web publisher registered in Israel (“we”, “us”). This policy describes what information the site collects, why, who else receives it, and the choices you have. We have tried to write it in plain language, because a policy nobody can read protects nobody.

What we collect

Addresses you enter into tools. These are stored, not processed and discarded.
Our tools answer by checking a street address against public records. When you run a tool, the address you entered and the result are saved in our database with the record of that tool run. A copy of the lookup result is also saved under the address, so the same address does not have to be looked up again; it is reused for thirty days and is not deleted automatically after that. To answer, the address is sent to public government services: the City of Los Angeles address dataset and, if that finds nothing, the U.S. Census Bureau geocoder, and the resulting map location is checked against the City's boundary map. The apartment or unit number is not sent to them.
Results you share.
If you press Share link on a tool’s result, we save what you entered into that tool (for the address tools, the address, and the rents or answers you gave) under a random link, so the person you send it to can see the same check. The link opens a page that runs the check again with those entries; the result itself is not saved. Anyone who has the link can open it, so share it only with people you want to see it. Nothing is saved unless you press Share link. Shared pages are not listed in search engines. A shared link is kept while it is in use: every time it is opened, it is kept for another 12 months, and a link nobody has opened for 12 months is deleted. To have one removed sooner, email us with the link.
Email updates.
If you sign up for email updates, we collect your email address and the page you signed up on, so we know which topics you came to us for. We first send one email asking you to confirm; nothing else is sent until you click the link in it. After that we send you updates from los-angeles.com: changes to the LA rules the site covers, new tools and guides, and news about the site. Every email has a link to unsubscribe, which takes effect at once, and you can also email us to be removed. Your address is never sold or shared with an advertiser.
Typing in the address box.
While you type, what you have typed so far is passed through our server to the City's address dataset to suggest matching addresses. It is not logged by us: only a completed tool run is recorded.
Technical information.
For each page view and tool run we log the IP address, browser type (user agent), approximate location derived from the IP at city level, the page viewed, the page you arrived from, and timestamps. This is read from the connection itself on our servers, is how the site is operated and kept secure, and is recorded whatever you choose in the consent banner.
How pages are used.
For each page view we also record how long the page stayed open, how far down it you scrolled, and how quickly it loaded. We record which questions in a page’s FAQ you open, which links to other websites you follow (the address of the page you went to, without anything after a question mark), when you start using a tool, and when you copy, print or share a tool’s result. We never record what you type into a tool this way: a tool counts as used, not what you entered. None of this is sent to an advertising or analytics company.
What you search for.
When you use the search box we record the term once you have finished typing, how many pages matched it, and which result you opened. Nothing is sent while you are still typing. A search that finds nothing tells us the site is missing a page, and that is how we decide what to write next.
Information you send us.
If you submit the contact or advertising form, we collect what you enter: typically your name, email address, occupation, and message. If you email us, we keep the correspondence.
What we do not collect.
We do not ask for, and you should not enter, government ID numbers or payment details anywhere on this site. We do not know your name unless you type it into a form, and nothing you type into a tool is ever sent to an advertising company.

What we use it for

To operate the tools and show you results; to secure the site and prevent abuse; to understand usage over time (which tools are used, which pages are read, how demand changes) so we can improve the site; to respond when you contact us; to follow up on advertising inquiries you submit; and, only if you allow it, to measure and reach people through advertising.

We do not sell your personal information for money. If you allow Advertising, the advertising providers listed under “Cookies and consent” receive the limited information described there, which California law may treat as “sharing” for advertising. You can switch it off at any time.

A note about addresses

An address you check in a housing tool can be sensitive: it may reveal where you live and that you are dealing with a housing question. We treat saved addresses as operational data: they are used to run and improve the tools, are not connected to your name (we do not know who you are unless you separately contact us), and are never given to an advertising partner. Aggregated statistics that identify nobody, such as how many lookups a neighborhood gets, may be used on the site or in our materials.

Cookies and consent

The site sorts everything it stores in your browser into three categories, and loads nothing in the last two until you say yes.

Necessary. What the site needs to work and to remember your choice. This includes the record of your consent choice itself. It cannot be switched off.

Analytics. Measurement of how the site is used: the trackers listed under Analytics below, and an identifier our own logging keeps in your browser so that one person reading five pages counts as one visitor rather than five. Without Analytics consent that identifier is kept only in memory for the page you are on and is never stored.

Advertising. The trackers listed under Advertising below. What the Meta pixel receives from us is deliberately narrow: the page you viewed, the tool you opened (for example “rent-increase”), the category of a result a tool gave you (for example “rent stabilized”), and which form you submitted. It never receives anything you typed: not an address, not a rent figure, not your name, email or message. We do not use Meta's Advanced Matching, so we send Meta no email, phone number or name. Meta, like any site you load, also receives your IP address and browser information, and processes what it receives under its own policy.

When you first visit, a banner asks. “Accept all” and “Reject all” are each one click, and “Manage preferences” lets you choose category by category. You can change your choice at any time from the “Cookie preferences” link at the bottom of every page, or with the button in this section. The choice is stored in this browser and does not carry to another browser or device.

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of advertising: Advertising stays off in that browser whatever else is chosen, and the banner says so. We also tell Google's tags that consent is denied until you grant it, using Google's Consent Mode.

Measures which tools and pages are used and helps us reach people on Meta's platforms who are likely to need them. Sets a cookie (named _fbp) once you allow Advertising. Runs with Meta's Limited Data Use setting, which Meta applies to visitors in California. Meta (Facebook and Instagram)'s privacy policy

Who else receives information

Service providers that run the site for us: Vercel, which hosts it; Supabase, which is our database; and Resend, which delivers the notification when a form is submitted and our email updates. They process data on our behalf and under our instructions, and not for their own purposes.

Public government services that answer address lookups: the City of Los Angeles and the U.S. Census Bureau, as described under “What we collect”.

The analytics and advertising providers listed under “Cookies and consent”, only in the categories you allow.

The site is run for visitors in Los Angeles, and our providers store and process data in the United States. If you use the site from elsewhere, your information is transferred to the United States, where data protection law may differ from the law where you live.

How long we keep it

We keep visit logs, tool logs, search logs and the address lookup cache for as long as we need them to operate, secure and improve the site, and correspondence for as long as we need it to handle your message and any follow-up. When information is no longer needed for those purposes, we delete it or keep it only in a form that identifies nobody.

Cookies and similar identifiers set by analytics and advertising providers last for the periods each provider sets, described in the policies linked under “Cookies and consent”. You can clear them from your browser at any time.

Addresses on our email list are kept while you are subscribed. When you unsubscribe we stop emailing at once and keep the address marked as unsubscribed, so it is never emailed again; to have it deleted entirely, email us.

Links to shared tool results are kept while they are in use. Each time a shared link is opened it is kept for another 12 months, and a link nobody has opened for 12 months is deleted, along with what was entered to make it.

You can ask us to delete your information at any time; see “Your California privacy rights” below.

Your California privacy rights

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, gives you the right to know what personal information we collect about you and how we use and disclose it; the right to delete it; the right to correct it if it is inaccurate; the right to opt out of its sale or sharing; and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.

To opt out of sharing, use the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link at the bottom of every page and switch Advertising off, or send a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser, which we honor automatically.

To exercise any other right, email info@los-angeles.com. We will need enough information to locate your data, for example the email you used or the approximate time and address of a tool lookup. We verify a request by matching what you tell us to what we hold, and we will not ask for more than we need to do that. We confirm receipt within 10 business days and respond within 45 days; if we need up to 45 more, we will tell you why. You may make a request through an authorized agent, in which case we may ask the agent for your written permission and ask you to confirm your identity with us directly.

If you are outside the United States

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your information, to restrict or object to how it is used, to receive a copy of it, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Email us to use any of them.

Digitali is responsible for your information (the “controller”) and can be reached at info@los-angeles.com. We process it because it is necessary to operate and secure the site and answer your questions (our legitimate interests), because you asked us to when you contact us, and, for analytics and advertising, because you consented. You can withdraw consent at any time from the “Cookie preferences” link.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.

Changes

We may update this policy as the site changes. When we do, the date at the top of this page changes with it, and a material change is noted on this page before it takes effect.
